Reminders: Not Lacking Anything

Reminders: James 1:4 | Eclectic Affinity #write31days

After years of believing there was more to life than earning a paycheck and getting older, we’d hit so many moments of “God, when? Really—WHEN?” A moment like that occurred one night as we were preparing for bed after our little one was sleeping softly in her bassinet. We were feeling frustrated with the cycle we seemed to be in of getting up just to get kicked down again. When I couldn’t sleep, I got out of bed to pray. I cried out to God “Lord, what is this thing—if anything— that You’ve called us to do? Do we need to do something big, something game-changing to get out of this perpetual rut? What’s next? Please position us to where we need to be.”

The NEXT DAY, my husband called to say he’d lost his job. No reason given. No severance given either.

The thing about difficult circumstances is that they temper your understanding of what is truly worth panicking over. This time, we weren’t panicked. We were choosing to see what God had for us in even this. A dear friend often says in difficult or new circumstances, “Lord, show me what You can be to me now that You couldn’t before.”

Patience is so difficult, but it has a perfect work it does in a person. For that though, I can say with a wink that I’m not actively seeking additional experience in the area.
