Reminders: Be Anchored

Reminders: Hebrews 6:19a | Eclectic Affinity #write31days

Pursuing a dream can be hard. Not all the days are, but the days and weeks and months that are, are soul-crushing in ways that are difficult to explain. “Hope deferred” is a painful reality for the heart. I like The Message translation of that verse which phrases it “unrelenting disappointment.” When you start down this path, give yourself some grace because things often take time. Even the ark, commissioned by God, was built piece by piece. Big things don’t often materialize at the drop of a hat.

Reminders: We’re Made to Work Together

Reminders: Ecclesiastes 3:11 | Eclectic Affinity #write31days

Frankly, not every crazy idea is God’s calling, but when the calling God’s placed on your life looks different than the call He’s placed on another’s life, people like to point out the difference. Some appreciate the difference—the part you’re called to play in the song He’s conducting. Others will try to minimize or degrade it—a reaction sometimes caused by pride colliding with envy.

Reminders: Walking the Walk

Reminders: Micah 6:8 | Eclectic Affinity #write31days

Noah took that personal risk in trusting God. I can’t help but wonder that maybe there were probably days he woke up and that ark was the last thing he wanted to work on—or perhaps he wondered if he heard wrong or if maybe God was just kidding. Did Noah even know exactly what would play out? I wonder if maybe there were also days following the after-shock of the flood that he wondered if he’d spend the rest of his life stuck on a boat filled with manure and wanted more than anything to see ground.
